ITINERARY
Our journey begins at approximately 7:00 AM at the designated meeting point for this tour. We will then head along the Pan-American Highway towards Latacunga, where we can observe some of the majestic volcanoes, such as Cotopaxi. Our first stop will be around 10 AM at the Toachi River Canyon. This canyon is about 40 meters (131 Ft) high with a 60-degree slope and is the result of pyroclastic flows from the Quilotoa volcano. The base of the canyon consists of pumice, lapilli, and volcanic bombs. These flows are estimated to be around 1,800 years old. The canyon offers a beautiful landscape, with the Toachi River, the main hydrographic axis of the area, running through its depths.
At approximately 10:30, we will arrive at Quilotoa Lagoon, located in the Parish of Zumbahua, Pujilí Canton. It is one of the 15 most beautiful volcanic lakes in the world, known for its emerald green color, which varies due to the minerals dissolved in its waters. Its temperature hovers around 12 degrees Celsius (53,6 F). We will descend to the lagoon in about 1 hour. At the lagoon, you will have the opportunity to go kayaking, and then we will ascend in approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, or you can choose to rent a mule for $12. At 13:30, we will enjoy a delicious lunch at a community restaurant.
Around 17:30, we will return to the hotel.
