ITINERARY

Our tour begins at approximately 8:00 AM at the designated meeting point for this tour. We will then head to the Basilica of the National Vow, a neo-Gothic religious building in the historic center of Quito. Due to its size and style, it was considered the largest neo-Gothic temple in the Americas and the tallest religious temple in Hispanic America until 2017. It is located in the Santa Prisca area, at the intersection of Carchi and Venezuela streets, next to the Oblate Fathers’ convent. If you wish, you can climb the towers (OPTIONAL NOT INCLUDED) for a privileged view of Quito’s historic center.

Afterward, we will proceed to the historic center of Quito and visit the Plaza Grande, the main square of the capital, the political and historical center of Ecuador and the symbolic seat of the President of Ecuador. It is the reference point for the city’s altitude, located at 2.818 m.a.s.l. (9.245). Its main feature is the Independence Monument, dedicated to the heroes of the independence of August 10th 1809, a date remembered as the First Cry of Hispanic American Independence, which stands in the center.

Next, we will visit the Church of the Society of Jesus, one of the city’s major tourist attractions and an invaluable heritage, both artistically and economically, for the country. If you wish, you can enter the church to admire its rich architecture and internal decoration, entirely covered with gold leaf (OPTIONAL NOT INCLUDED).

Next we will head to the Plaza de San Francisco, the largest square in Quito’s historic center, dominated by the imposing facade of the Church and Convent of San Francisco, from which it takes its name. This square has been one of the most representative urban settings in the city since colonial times when its central fountain provided water to the residents for centuries.

At approximately 10:30 AM, we will head to the Quito Cable Car (Teleferico), one of the most important tourist icons of the city, located on the slopes of the Rucu Pichincha volcano. It ascends from the Motriz platform at 3.117 m.a.s.l. (10.226 ft.) to Cruz Loma at 3.947 m.a.s.l. (12.949 ft.), making it one of the highest cable cars in South America.

After this, we will go to the Middle of the World, an iconic site in Ecuador, as the country is named after the Equatorial Line, an imaginary line that divides the planet into the northern and southern hemispheres. Here, you can visit the Ciudad Mitad del Mundo, a tourist complex that houses the famous Equatorial Monument (OPTIONAL NOT INCLUDED), or visit the Intiñan Museum. This museum offers an interactive tour where you can learn about the history of our ancestral people and the magnificent effects produced by the sun in our solar cylinder. Travel back in time through century-old huts, discover and understand the physical phenomena of the earth with our didactic examples, observe the path of the sun (Intiñan) in the Acoratene, and, of course, enjoy a natural and privileged environment (OPTIONAL NOT INCLUDED).

We will return to the hotel around 2:30 PM.

Approximate duration: 8 hours.
