Arrival in Quito.
Welcome to Quito! It is the most visited city in Ecuador due to its cultural richness, being considered the "Reliquary of Art in America." It was also the first city to be declared by UNESCO as a "Cultural Heritage of Humanity." The city is surrounded by the volcanoes Pichincha, Antisana, Cotopaxi, and Cayambe, which shape the Andean contour.
Depending on your arrival time, you can spend the day exploring the old town of Quito and its surroundings. We can help you organize a day tour (request in advance).
In the evening, one of our guides will meet you in the hotel lobby for a welcome briefing at 6:00 PM. During this time, we will discuss details and answer any questions you might have about the adventure. Our first day is a day of acclimatization and information.
Included: accommodation at Hotel Swissotel Quito or similar in double occupancy.
Not included: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Quito - Galapagos - Transfer in - Highlands - Twin Craters (Crateres Gemelos)
In the morning, after a delicious breakfast, one of our guides will be waiting to transfer you to the airport for your flight to the Galapagos Islands. Upon arrival at Baltra Island, you will be picked up and transferred to Santa Cruz, a nearby island, crossing the narrow Itabaca Channel by ferry. From here, we will continue by car to our first stop in the Santa Cruz highlands.
The highlands are home to the iconic Galapagos giant tortoises. Here, you will visit a private ranch where you can walk in search of the giant tortoises. During this visit, you will also see some lava tunnels, formed when the surface of a lava flow solidifies.
After this tour, you will continue by private vehicle to your hotel. Here, you will meet your local guide, who will explain the next day's itinerary.
Enjoy the rest of the afternoon free to relax and explore this beautiful island.
Included: accommodation at Hotel Dejavu or similar in double occupancy, breakfast, and lunch.
Not included: dinner.
Bay Tour - Charles Darwin Research Station.
After a delicious breakfast at approximately 8:30 AM, we will walk to the Main Dock, where we will board a boat authorized by the PNG for about 15 minutes of navigation to Punta Estrada. From the boat, we will observe blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, gulls, etc. Then, we will snorkel in Franklin Bay for about 45 minutes. Optional snorkel equipment will be provided for anyone who wishes to use it. Here, you will see a variety of colorful fish, marine turtles, small sharks, etc. Next, we will head to another point, the Shark Channel located in Punta Estrada. Here, we will disembark to visit the Shark Channel formed by magma chamber swellings. We will see the harmless white-tipped reef sharks. Afterward, we will walk for about 10 minutes to Playa de los Perros, a beach where we can find marine iguanas. There will be time to take photos and enjoy the scenery, but swimming is not allowed.
Next, we will go to Las Grietas. To visit Las Grietas, we will walk for 15 minutes past the salt mines to a natural pool where saltwater from the sea mixes with freshwater from the island's highlands. This location is ideal for swimming with fish and snorkeling, offering excellent photo opportunities.
We will return to the hotel around 12:30 PM for lunch.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn more about many endemic species seen in the wild and the ongoing conservation and management efforts in the Galapagos Islands.
Included: accommodation at Hotel Dejavu or similar in double occupancy, breakfast, and lunch.
Not included: dinner.
Transfer Santa Cruz - Isabela - Giant Tortoise Breeding Center - Flamingo Lagoon - Tintoreras Islet.
After breakfast, we will take a speedboat to the largest island in the archipelago, where the highest volcanic activity is reported. The island was formed by six shield volcanoes, Alcedo, Cerra Azul, Darwin, Ecuador, Sierra Negra, and Wolf, five of which are still active, making it one of the most volcanically active places on the planet.
Upon arrival, we will visit the giant tortoise breeding center and the flamingo lagoon to admire this incredible species in its natural habitat.
In the afternoon, we will visit Tintoreras Islet, located a short distance from Puerto Villamil and home to a variety of wildlife. Its turquoise, crystal-clear waters are inhabited by white-tipped reef sharks, Galapagos penguins, marine turtles, and sea lions. One of its beaches, surrounded by mangroves, is one of the few sites where marine iguanas can reproduce successfully.
Included: accommodation at Hotel Albemarle or similar in double occupancy, breakfast, and lunch.
Not included: dinner.
Hike in Sierra Negra - Chino Volcano - Concha Perla
After driving from Puerto Villamil to the trailhead, we will prepare our backpacks for a hike to a young forest ecosystem, a world of recent geological history. Our destination is the edge of the Sierra Negra crater, an active volcano that last erupted in June 2018. Upon arrival, we will enjoy impressive views and explore the circumference of the enormous lava-filled crater, a caldera over six miles wide at its widest point. If we feel energetic, we can continue our hike to Volcano Chico, a secondary crater with a wild landscape of fumaroles and colorful lava formations, great examples of the dramatic geological events that have shaped the Galapagos Islands over millennia.
In the afternoon, you will have time to enjoy the crystal-clear waters of Concha Perla and do some snorkeling to observe the marine fauna.
Included: accommodation at Hotel Albemarle or similar in double occupancy, breakfast, and lunch.
Not included: dinner.
Snorkeling at Cabo Rosa Tunnels
Explore the amazing lava formations created by the last eruptions of the volcanic island along the seashore. This magical place has been historically filmed by the BBC and National Geographic for their documentaries. It is a labyrinth of lava arches made of crystal-clear water, full of marine turtles, eagle rays, sea lions, sharks, and more. The turtles navigate their own highway from the mangroves to the open sea through "The Tunnels." Here, we will have the best opportunity to snorkel with all these beautiful animals, including the curious Galapagos penguins.
Before or after the trip, you can enjoy several optional activities such as snorkeling, biking, or simply relaxing on the exotic white-sand beaches of Isabela Island.
Included: accommodation at Hotel Albemarle or similar in double occupancy and breakfast.
Not included: lunch and dinner.
Transfer Isabela - Santa Cruz - Transfer Out - Quito
After our final breakfast on the Galapagos Islands and the last photos taken of the sea lions, we have a transfer to Baltra Airport in time for our flight back to the mainland. Upon arrival in Quito, you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for one more free night before saying goodbye.
Included: accommodation at Hotel Swissotel Quito or similar in double occupancy and breakfast.
Not included: lunch and dinner.
